try thiamine 75 mg twice a day. it is vitamin B1.
The best way to avoid it is to contol the blood sugar level. It has no defenit therapy,as nerves can not heal, just life modification to reduce pressure on the area, etc.
I also have this, along with retinopathy! Cymbalta is good for the neuropathy. It is a prescription drug. You or whoever probably should go see a doctor unless you are just researching it. Good luck what ever the case should be.
I have diabetes, and Peripheral Neuropathy in both legs and arms. I take Gabapentin 300mg, two capsules twice a day. It helps with the discomfort.
For under $100 there are these magnetic insoles that were double blind placebo tested for diabetic neuropathy on 395 people with 90% positive results in relieving pain, numbness and burning. Check out the website www.yourwellnesshome.net and scroll down and read about the study, the article in Diabetes News and the Discovery channel video on Dr. Weintraub. For the price of a nice dinner out, you can't bet them!
